Home Education

Flexible, personalised learning that works around your child

At House of Orkney Education, we support home-educating families who want something different from traditional schooling. Many families choose home education because they want learning to feel calmer, more personalised and genuinely responsive to their child.

Our sessions are designed to rebuild confidence, curiosity and a love of learning in ways that feel safe, respectful and empowering.

Many of the children we work with have previously experienced anxiety around school, unmet SEND needs, or learning environments that simply did not work for them. Our approach focuses on helping children reconnect with learning at their own pace.

Sessions can take place in your home or at a calm learning space in Whitley Bay, offering flexibility and comfort for families.

Bespoke Packages Built Around Your Child

No two home-educated children are the same, and neither are our learning programmes.

We work closely with families to create personalised learning packages that reflect your child's needs, interests and pace.

Support may include:

• Core curriculum learning including maths, literacy and wider subjects
• Interest-led or project-based learning
• Confidence building and re-engagement with learning
• Support alongside other home education provision

Learning plans remain flexible and evolve as your child grows, ensuring support always feels appropriate and meaningful.

High-Quality, Engaging Resources

Sessions are built using high-quality resources and teaching approaches that promote deep understanding and genuine engagement.

This may include:

• Practical and multi-sensory activities
• Games, discussion and movement
• Real-life contexts and problem solving
• Child-led interests woven into learning

This approach helps learning feel purposeful, enjoyable and achievable, especially for children who may have disengaged from learning in the past.

Calm, Respectful Learning Spaces

Learning works best when children feel safe and understood.

Sessions are designed to feel:

• Calm and unhurried
• Emotionally safe and supportive
• Responsive to sensory and emotional needs

Children are never pressured to perform. We focus first on helping them feel comfortable and confident. Learning grows naturally from there.

Working in Partnership With Families

Home education works best as a partnership.

We value parental insight and collaboration, and families receive regular feedback including:

• What we have been working on
• How learning felt for your child
• Strengths, successes and next steps

This helps families feel informed, reassured and confident in their child’s learning journey.

A safe alternative to school

Our home education support is particularly well suited to children who:

• Have experienced anxiety, burnout or trauma linked to school
• Have SEND needs that were not well supported in mainstream settings
• Thrive in calmer, lower-pressure learning environments
• Learn best through practical, hands-on or creative approaches

We do not try to replicate school. Instead, we focus on how children actually learn best through curiosity, connection and meaningful experiences.

Every child deserves learning that works for them.

House of Orkney Education exists to offer thoughtful, personalised education for families who want something different. Our home education support helps children:

• Heal from difficult learning experiences
• Rediscover confidence and curiosity
• Learn in ways that genuinely work for them

If you are looking for supportive, personalised learning that meets your child where they are, we would love to hear from you.
