Learning Hubs
House of Orkney Education Learning Hubs provide small, supportive group sessions for children from Reception to Year 6. They are designed to rebuild confidence, spark curiosity and strengthen the foundations children need for successful learning.
Each hub has a maximum of four learners. Children are carefully grouped by age and ability so that every child receives personalised attention while still benefiting from learning alongside others.
Sessions run during term time after school and Thursday mornings. They take place at The Lantern Rooms in Whitley Bay.
Learning alternates weekly between Maths and Literacy so children can strengthen key skills while building on previous learning week by week.
Sessions are practical, structured and engaging. Activities include games, discussion, movement and real life contexts so that learning feels meaningful and enjoyable. Wherever possible, children's interests are woven into the sessions to keep motivation high and help learning stick.
Who the Learning Hubs are for
House of Orkney Education Learning Hubs are particularly well suited to children who:
• Benefit from a quieter, calmer learning environment
• Need support to rebuild confidence or close gaps in learning
• Thrive in small groups with more individual attention
• Learn best through practical, multi sensory activities
How progress is supported
Children’s progress is carefully monitored and parents receive weekly feedback so they feel informed and involved in their child's learning journey.
Updates include:
• What we have been working on
• How the learning has landed for your child
• Strengths and successes
• Suggested next steps
This helps families understand how their child is progressing and how confidence is developing alongside academic skills.
A different approach to learning
House of Orkney Education Learning Hubs are not about rushing through content or putting children under pressure.
They are about helping children feel safe, understood and capable so that progress can happen naturally and confidently.
When children feel calm and confident, learning begins to make sense again.
